As you know it is hard to get good G.. LP Custom shops type R9 in Europe. I was very sceptical when Iordered a Maybvach Lester Wild Cherry. After a long study on You tube and with friends i noticed that Maybach has his place as a brand in Europe.
The sound of Amber 59 hand wired pick ups is incredible.
I compared it with a Gibson LP and a Heritage LP.
Guess what , the sound is unbeatable. And this for Jazz and bluesy type of music.
I ordered in the meanwhile already 4 Maybachs and sold all my G... LP.
There is one guitar comparable that is the PRS Custom 24 35th anniversary with 58 PRS pick ups. They are in the same price range , but with the PRS you only get a gig bag and it is not aged.
So Maybach Lester LP is now my child . And the wild cherry colour is much better in real than the pictures used on this web.

Quality and resonance

Used to strat type guitars, I was looking for a convincing Les Paul model and wasn't disappointed by this Maybach Lester.

Light but very resonant, probably also due to the big chunky neck - btw, don't worry you get used to it very quickly.
Playing unplugged and standing up, you can feel the instrument vibrate in you belly.

Overall, very well made instrument, the aging is very (I mean, VERY) subtle, which I tend to prefer - mainly, it's the checking of the nitrocellulose finish that stands out.

The pickups are well balanced. I play mainly styles that require mild to medium overdrive and clean tones, so I was looking for good clean tones too, which I got with this guitar. (My point of reference being my strat equipped with Suhr FL and V60LP).

Only downside to me: the look they went for with the flight case... a bit too "Mariachi" like for my taste!

Optik:
Beim Auspacken fiel mir zuerst der super-schicke Koffer ins Auge: reichlich verziert und sogar die Koffer-Verschlüsse passen zum "aged Finish" der Gitarre.
Das Aging der Gitarre ist äußerst gelungen - für diese Preisklasse erst recht!
Die leichten Cracks im Lack sind dezent und gut gemacht, Schrammen und sonstige Abnutzungen sind ziemlich realistisch. Bis auf den "eigenen" Halswinkel (eine Les Paul hat die Kopfplatte stärker abgewinkelt...) ein insgesamt starker Les Paul Klon.
Das Halsprofil ist ein kräftiges '58er, eher "Prügel" als Streichholz (Halsdicke am 1. Bund ist gut 24mm am 12. Bund etwa 26 mm). Für die Schred-Franktion somit weniger geeignet, toll für den Rocker und Blueser. Denn beim Gitarrenhals gilt für mich: Mehr Holz = mehr Ton :)

Verarbeitung:
Störend fand ich den schlecht eingesetzten Sattel: der Sattel war insgesamt etwas zu schmal für die Fräsung. Ausserdem wurde seitlich zuviel weggenommen: man hat einen deutlichen Spalt zwischen Sattelnut und Unterseite vom Sattel - das kann ein Gitarrenbauer eigentlich besser. Ansonsten passt alles. Das Gewicht ist mit ca. 3,5 kg bei meinem Exemplar sehr gut ausgefallen - endlich eine Paula für Leute mit "Rücken". Die Balance im Sitzen und am Gurt passt 1A.

Sound:
Schon beim trockenen Anspielen fällt die gute Resonanz auf. Akkorde und Melodien sind schon akustisch laut und gut aufgelöst zu hören.
Am Amp liefert die Maybach alles, was ich von einer Paula möchte: fetten Schub, scharfe Riffs, singende Soli - alles wunderbar. Das der Body zur Gewichts-Einsparung gechambered wurde ist nicht zu hören. Clean oder mit Overdrive kommt eigentlich immer ein schöner Ton aus den Speakern.
Die Regler für Volume und Tone arbeiten erstklassig - man kann einem guten Röhren-Amp (Marshall bzw. Palmer DREI) über die Potis der Gitarre Klänge von Jazz bis Rock entlocken.

mein Fazit:
Eine super "Les Pau"l-artige Gitarre mit hervorragendem Preis- / Leistungsverhältnis und sehr gutem Klang. Wer nicht unbedingt das G..... auf der Kopflatte braucht, ist hier richtig !
