Use these to record a Schimmel piano and they capture this instrument's complicated timbre effectively. Recordings are flawless and require no EQ. Because they are tightly damped, the result sits cleanly in the mix.
Using a Gordon Model 5 preamp and only the best pre will mine all of this mic's capabilities.
Their sound is subtle -- high frequency attacks are well represented but not as literal/forward as with some measurement mics such as the Earthworks QTC40. The sustained portion of the tone is accurately rendered; if you switch from the headphone monitor directly to the source instrument you will hear little difference. Over a two week period the mics have opened up slightly and sound more realistic.
Expensive but worth every penny. If you are recording an acoustic instrument with a complex timbre, start with these.

As the word "sublime" suggests, they are able to bring you right at the threshold of the objective world, gazing beyond its limits.

Ausgesprochen lineare Kugelmikrofone. Als Hauptmikrofone für Laufzeitstereofonie geeignet oder auch im Studio als Instrumentenmikrofone (Kontrabass, Piano). Kugeltypisch sehr guter Tiefbass ohne Nahbesprechungseffekt. Weniger richtungsabhängige Klangverfärbungen sind bei den gegebenen Abmessungen des Mikrofons kaum machbar.
Die technische Seite: Perfektes Werkzeug. Die emotionale: Natürlichkeit der Mirkofone hat mich umgehauen! Das Preis-Leistungsverhältnis ist ausgewogen: Für einen Wahnsinnspreis gibt es Wahnsinnsmikrofone.
Einen Lowcut hätte ich - Modularsystem hin oder her - gerne gesehen, daher ein Punkt Abzug bei den Features.

Le summum de la qualité : peut-on avoir mieux que des Schoeps dans son parc ?
Réponse en fréquence parfaitement plate, avec un rendu exceptionnellement naturel et clair : c'est exactement ce que je cherchais.
Je les utilise pour capter des chœurs en configuration A-B 40 : ils sont parfaits.
