Boss SL-2 Slicer

I am very pleased with this pedal !
As I expected : the Slicer effect with many variations.
Slicer is a tremolo like effect, but with a hard, strumming attack and a touch of filter sweep that gives a synthlike sound. No tremolo pedal can do this effect, only come close.
The reason why I am so pleased with the SL-2 is that the BOSS TONE STUDIO makes it possible to modify the sounds to your liking ! I am not much into tone prints normally, but for this pedal it is perfect.
I modified my SL-2 to a SL-20 this way, with also other slicer effects I really like from the tone studio. 7 x 12 effect sounds I chose myself.
With the pedal in first use, I was looking for some sounds i liked. Now every sound is bingo. In the tone Studio I found the SL-20 package, but also some nice new sounds.

If you like Slicer, this is a must. Unless you have the Boss md-200 wich also can do this very well.

I use this with an electric piano instead of a more traditional tremolo effect. It's pretty idiot proof, just play a big chord and let the slicer do its thing. I have a synth on top of the piano for sequencing basslines to play over, and being able to use the MIDI clock to keep the bass and slicer effects in sync is a big advantage over a typical tremolo. I initially expected it to be more on the gimmick end of the gimmick/workhorse scale of music gear, useful for slapping glitching rhythms over chords and not much else, but with the right settings it can add intrigue to the rhythm without overwhelming everything else. I've yet to try the software for uploading more patterns, so it's likely even more flexible than I've already found it to be. I expect I'll add an expression pedal at some point for hands-free control of the balance, as this is the one control I find myself wanting to adjust while playing.

All in all, a great pedal, I can see it staying on my pedalboard for a long time.
