Beautiful and wonderfully sounding guitar
Anh Tu Tran 11.06.2018
I was looking for an update from my beginner classical guitar (which I paid CA$600). I needed a better instrument to progress with for years to come: more responsive, more sensitive to my playing and with a clearer tone. I started to study classical guitar for the past four years and may be considered an intermediate player.
The Noguera meets all my expectations. It is crafted with exquisite pieces of wood and her voice is woody yet clear, has a more bassy character but maintains a sweeter tone than rosewood. The ebony fretboard enhances playability (I can play barre chords with more ease). The mechanics are of high quality (very smooth and precise) and the finish is cleanly done (no sign of glue).
The action is unfortunately on the high side (but this is something adjustable by a skilled luthier). The projection is definitely more powerful than my other guitar but it is still in the studio range. This is not a concert guitar. Although the double-back seems to add an interesting reverb.
Rosewood is being scarce and CITES regulations make imports and exports a lot more troublesome than before. In this context, I advise everyone looking a guitar in this price range, to consider guitars with walnut back and sides from Burguet. Plus, Picea abies is a high end spruce and the trebbles do sing!
